A Very Special Order

Posted by Melissa
Categories: custom order

Earlier this summer I received an inquiry on crystalling a kitchen appliance. Immediately I thought hmm, KitchenAid Mixer??  I replied to receive the details and found it was a KitchenAid Mixer! A pink one at that (my FAVORITE color I swear!).  Not only was this going to be the biggest project I’ve ever worked on, it would also be on tv. That’s right! I was creating a very special Bridal Shower gift for Katherine Kallinis – owner of Georgetown Cupcakes with her sister Sophie LaMontagne.  But the parameters were tight – I needed to crystal it in under 2 weeks!

And visit the DC Cupcake blog to see some photos of Katherine’s bridal shower!

And now, for the pics of the finished project!

Since the blog post, the mixer has made its way around TV Land – it has been featured on segments with Katherine and Sophie on The Chew and Live with Kelly.  I would like to thank those who gave me the heads up by leaving comments on my blog! I’ve tivo’d each time it’s aired because I love seeing the reaction of the hosts. Kelly Ripa gushed over this thing and maybe her hubby would want to order one {wink, wink}.  Below are copies of the video segments.  And if anyone is interested, you can order your own special mixer, covered with thousands of Swarovski crystals.  You pick the mixer color & crystal color and I do the work.  The total cost for this exclusive item is $2000.  But you’ll be in a very special club with Katherine! Feel free to either email me or leave a comment and I’ll get back to you!

Many people have found my site through other blog posts, pinterest, and with show segments (The Chew and Live with Kelly).  Thank you so much for stopping by!

How can I do this to my own step by step how to what kind. Of glue and Crystals

    • Melissa November 10, 2011 at 11:30 am

Thanks for the heads up Danica! All the crystals are authentic Swarovski Elements. I purchase everything wholesale so not sure what’s available to the general public.

  15. Lauren November 10, 2011 at 2:13 pm

Would you do another one in turquoise? I have the mixer already but just LOVE LOVE LOVE this.

    How much would it cost?

    • Melissa November 10, 2011 at 3:19 pm

Hi Lauren! Glad you love the sparkle as much as I do! I wouldn’t mind doing another mixer! It takes about 22 hours of labor and therefore the turnaround time would be 2-3 months. The cost (if you provide the mixer) would be $1700 (plus tax if you’re in CA) and return shipping to you.

If you’re interested please email me through my website! Thank you!!

  17. Carmen December 30, 2011 at 3:32 am

It’s gorgeous but can you imagine trying to wipe flour and powdered sugar off that thing! Lol!

  18. Heidi January 19, 2012 at 7:43 am

Ummm would be concerned the sequence would come off what did you put over it?

    • Melissa January 19, 2012 at 11:16 am

Hi Heidi! It’s not sequins – they’re individual Swarovski crystals that are glued on. It’s a really really strong glue that is pretty tough to get them off. But as long as care is used there shouldn’t be any coming off.

  19. Ashley February 14, 2012 at 7:22 am

It is on display on Live With Kelly right now!!! DC Cupcakes have a feature to show valentines day sweets!

What kind of glue is used? Any suggestions to do it as a DIY project?

    • Melissa March 26, 2012 at 3:40 pm

I purchase the glue wholesale so you would probably want to check the craft stores. Honestly it’s a huge huge project that takes a lot of patience. But with any DIY project – you alway want to make sure you price out everything before jumping in! Over 10,000 crystals were applied on this one

  31. cj April 3, 2012 at 12:29 pm

what color crystal did you use for this? I am dying!

    • Melissa April 3, 2012 at 4:26 pm

That is Swarovski’s fuchsia. So pretty. One of my favorites!

  32. Maribel Reyes April 30, 2012 at 2:18 pm

Wow! that is awesome in so many ways! and beautiful! Congratulations!
