Inside the steps of a custom order - Bethany

Bethany contacted us via email wanting a custom order for her cake topper. She sent us a jpg photo of her fiance's cattle brand that she wanted us to turn into a cake topper for her. Her fiance created it over 12 years ago. The C is for his last name, the 5 plays off a nickname from his family and the bar is an extra letter as all cattle brands must have 3 characters per the New Mexico Livestock Board. In addition to registering the brand, the location as to where it goes on the cattle is also registered. So, if you see any cattle running around with that brand, you know that it belongs to Bethany and her soon to be husband!

Now, onto the process behind a custom order...

Now, if you notice what I noticed - none of those are connected. There were a few options, one was to create each character individually and have the wedding coordinator, baker, or friend have to insert the letters in the correct order. But, we decided to flex our creative muscles to figure out a way to recreate it as one piece. Using Adobe Illustrator, we created this to send off to our manufacturer to have it created.

The gray lines would serve as support beams and would not be crystalled. Once we get all of our letters from our manufacturer (Bethany's in this case) , they look like this...

The brown you see is a protective paper that's attached with a sticker-like adhesive. It's to protect the acrylic from any burn marks that can sometimes appear during their process to cut out our letters/numbers/shapes. We have it applied to the back of the letter so our customers have a clean smooth finish on the exposed back of the letters. The fronts are covered with crystals so any marks that might appear are covered.

After all crystals are hand applied, it's done! Bethany chose AB crystal to cover her brand. The AB crystal shimmers all the colors of the rainbows and is absolutely gorgeous.

Bethany - we hope you enjoy your cake topper and wish you and your fiance nothing but the best! Please send us photos after your fall wedding!!

WIP - Victoria, part 2

As mentioned before, Victoria has quite a bit of items she wanted Bling Divas to create for her. She is having quite the soiree for her 30th birthday, and she came up with a new idea to add some bling to her birthday cake.

These letters will be inserted into the bottom tier of her cake to add some customized sparkle to it!

Keep an eye out for ONE more post on what Victoria had Bling Divas create!

WIP - Victoria

Victoria contacted us through Etsy to work on something very special for her birthday. It's not only special because it's her 30th birthday and she's having a fabulous party - but it's also special because of what she asked us to do. Here's a sneak peak of one of the items we're doing for her....keep checking back to see the other items we're working on!

Custom Design

Staci is one of my friend's sister and contacted me to help her with a cake topper for her friend's wedding. For the topper, she wanted something with some asian flair. We discussed options, and the lotus flower came up. With our cake toppers, they are pretty much 2D, but we searched online for some options to bring something of the lotus flower into the topper. First we talked about maybe doing that with color...but the letter isn't that large to get the full effect. Then, we discussed adding another element. And then after that - everything just clicked into place.

The wedding is next weekend and we are very excited to see the photos from it!

The top of the letter uses Fire Opal that shimmers orange and red. The bottom color is Volcano that shimmers purple and green.

Completed Name Plate

Things may have been quiet on the Bling Divas blog front, but Danielle and Melissa have been busy behind the scenes. Our wonderful customers have come up with new and exciting ways to use Bling Divas to make their cakes one of a kind. Keep an eye out for MANY new toppers in the weeks to come!

In the meantime, here is a gorgeous name plate and card holder that was recently completed for the fabulous Aileen Secord of Aileen Secord Photography. Both pieces were created using peridot crystals. Pictures simply do not do these pieces justice! (click on each for a larger image)
